The tour starts by driving to the Blue Grotto which is located on the south face of the island. The location is called Wied Iz-Zurrieq, a natural rock formation inlet where fisherman anchor their small wooden boats.
The touring bus stops you at the carpark where then you walk down the hill from ere you can buy your tickets and proceed the last 20 metres to the Blue Grotto trips departure wharf. It is at the same time a very lovely location with natural rocky formations, deep blue sea and the uninhabited island of Filfla out at sea.
The Blue Grotto is a naturally shaped rock formation with a number of sea caverns that for everyday between sunrise and 13:00 is the best time for the best light reflections.
Although this boat ride is the only thing not included in the tour it is highly recommended.
The boat trip takes 25 minutes from where you embark the fishing boat which takes 8 persons at a time to the cave and back to the same departing location. As a safety precaution everyone on the boat has to wear a life vest.
The small boats drive inside the large cave where you will be caught up with the natural beautiful reflections mirroring numerous shades of blue. Brilliant phosphorescent colors of the underwater plants.
If you do not take the boat ride you can walk around down to the natural sea inlet, walk around the small garden which is further up from here. There is a few short streets with old houses and new flats where you will observed several restaurants serving all sorts of food especially fish.
The tour proceeds by driving to Marsaxlokk village which is not far away from where you started the tour. It is a very attractive location where you will stop to walk around the promenade where many fishing boats are anchored.
A Sunday market with many different stalls line up the promenade. It was originally a fish market which developed into a Sunday morning market with fish, souvenirs, and fresh goods.
